Duet Voice Memos
Privacy Policy

Effective July 21, 2026

Duet Voice Memos is a local-first companion for recording voice memos and making them available to Duet through your private iCloud Documents container.

Data collection

Duet does not collect data from Duet Voice Memos. The app has no Duet-operated backend, analytics, advertising, telemetry, or crash-reporting service. Duet does not receive your recordings, transcripts, lexicon, diagnostics, Apple Account information, or device identity during ordinary use.

Recording and transcription

The app accesses the microphone only after you start a recording and grant microphone permission. It records AAC audio for the memo you chose to capture. If you grant speech-recognition permission and on-device recognition is available, Apple’s Speech framework creates a transcript on the device. The app preserves the audio if transcription is unavailable or fails.

You can revoke microphone or speech-recognition access at any time in iOS Settings.

Storage and iCloud

Memo audio, transcripts, memo identifiers, and the Duet lexicon are stored on your devices and, when available, in your private iCloud Documents container. Apple provides and governs iCloud under your Apple Account and Apple’s terms. Duet does not operate a server that receives these memo packages.

Committed memo packages are retained locally and in the private iCloud container under the current dogfood policy so that an unavailable or failed memo promotion does not destroy your only copy. You can remove app data by deleting Duet Voice Memos and can manage or remove iCloud data through Apple’s iCloud storage controls. Removing data may make it unavailable to Duet on your other devices.

Diagnostics and support sharing

The app keeps a bounded diagnostic ledger for no more than 14 days, 100 memo identifiers, and 2,000 events. Default diagnostic exports contain technical codes, timestamps, counts, and memo UUIDs. They do not contain transcript text, audio, file paths, localized error descriptions, credentials, or account or device identity.

Diagnostics leave the app only when you deliberately export and share an archive through an iOS destination you select.

Transcript or audio content can leave the app only through the separate “Share memo with support…” flow. Transcript and Audio are both off whenever that flow opens. You must select one memo, deliberately choose the categories to include, and confirm them before iOS presents sharing options. Duet receives content only if you choose a destination that delivers it to Duet.

Third parties

Duet Voice Memos uses Apple system services including iCloud, Speech, and AVFoundation. Apple’s handling of data through those services is governed by Apple’s privacy policy and your Apple settings. A destination you choose from the iOS share sheet handles the exported archive under that destination’s own terms.

Children

Duet Voice Memos is not directed to children, and Duet does not knowingly collect personal data from children through the app.

Changes

This policy will be updated before a release adds a Duet-operated backend, analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, automatic support upload, or another material change to data handling. The effective date above identifies the current version.
